Ralphies Bar & Grille - Aug 10, 2022
Since our visit, good ole Ralphies Bar and Grill got at least a website and name makeover.
Ralphies is now known as The Tavern at Penns Park (https://the-tapp.com/)
We'll still tell you our story based on our visit to Ralphies...
8 members made the journey, 8 returned...when we arrived the first thing that came to mind was a local biker bar, entering the establishment was like entering a bar from the 70s-80s where I expected to get a beer in an 8oz glass (that had the name of the beer on it), like my grandmother used to drink from at her tiled kitchen table:
Yup, that's right, I thought we were going old-school and drinking us some Schlitz!
A side note to you that care (all of you of course), while Schlitz brewing company based our of Milwaukee is no longer around and the plant demolished, the brand was purchased twice; once by Stroh's Brewing Company in 1982, then again by Pabst in 1999 where it is still being made today. In 2014 Pabst Brewing Company was then purchased by TSG Consumer Partners but is still located in Los Angeles and still brewing Schlitz as well as PBR (we'll save that for another story).
Now back to our regularly scheduled program
The establishment, we noticed was more of a bar than restaurant as we had to put some tables together in the one room so we were able to sit. We were told by the owner, that the area is usually clear because they have bands that come to play (which you can see on their site; https://the-tapp.com/event/).
Beer Choices were good, we had many to select from, mostly the standards, but they did have Lagunitas IPA and Rolling Rock on tap and we went with them (in pitchers and they had 16oz glasses...whew)
The menu was typical of bar food; burgers and sandwiches and of course wings, and pretty extensive for the size of the establishment. (https://the-tapp.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Ralphies-Menu-5-22.pdf)
now to get to the meat of things (pun intended), we rate on the following items on a scale of 1-5 with 1 being 'don't waste your time' and 5 being 'you gotta try this place'
- Size and Quantity of Wings - 4.25
- Crispiness of Wings - 3.5
- Quality of Sauce - 4.0
- Selection of Flavors - 4.0
- Other Menu Items - 3.5
- Cleanliness and Service - 4.5
- Other Activities - 3.75
- Overall Price - 4.0
This trip was enjoyable for all, the staff was pleasant and the owner stopped over a few times to make sure we were OK and to see what we thought of the wings. Lauren R (from Lehigh Valley) was our bartender/server and was very pleasant, constantly checking in on us. What we found interesting but kind of made sense after the fact was that more than one of the regulars came over and chatted with us asking us our thoughts. Of course they want to hear good things about their favorite establishment. We all left with full stomachs and to the cheer of many patrons cheering on Ralphies as number 1!
Overall this place was a 4 and worth a visit if for nothing else but some good wings and conversation with the regulars.
